The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) is a term defined in section 39 of the British Governments Childcare Act 2006. The EYFS comprises a set of welfare requirements which must be followed by providers of care for children under five years old – the age of compulsory education in the United Kingdom.

The EYFS sets standards for learning, development, and care of your child from birth to 5 years old.

Your child will be mostly taught through games and play in these areas:

The prime areas shall mainly be focused on with children under 3, and both the prime and specific areas with children 3 years and older.

Assessments

Your child’s progress will be reviewed when they are between 2 and 3 years old by an early year’s practitioner or a health visitor.

Their class teacher will assess them at the end of the school year when they turn 5. Cherry Tree will do a transition to school report which we will share with you as well as your child’s chosen school.

Cherry Tree are pleased to be using eyLog to record our children’s learning journeys. A letter upon starting will give you all the information on this fantastic provider, and the easy wonderful ways in which we as practitioners and you as parents / carers can work together to enable the best possible start to life for your little one by tracking their learning journey together each step of the way.

Parents as Partners

Our parents are so important to us here at Cherry Tree and we want all that attend our setting both the children and their families to feel part of a truly great experience. Parents as Partners as highlighted within the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) play a crucial role in the work and care that we do. Working together will only mean better outcomes for the children in our care and help us to provide an exceptional level of learning and support with your help.

Vygotsky placed great emphases on parents as partners in their child’s life as crucial as he believed that everything a child learns is through the interactions with knowledgeable partners
